Life/Work Balance

In recent years, a combination of factors including more difficult financial environment, longer commuting times, reduced resources, increased complexity and growth in the electricity business sector, has increased pressure at work and has tended to erode the quality of life. Working parents find it very difficult to maintain a balance between work, parenting and social activities.

ESPA members  have experienced many of these factors and it is important to be aware of the options available within your company.  

In ESB Group the Life/Work Balance (LWB) policy sets out options available to staff that suit many people at different stages of their working life (check MyLife@ESB for full list). These include statutory entitlements such as parental leave and force majeure leave as well as career breaks, life balance time and reduced hours working. ESPA has emphasised in discussions with ESB that these options must be available to its members.

ESPA is also committed to improving the range of LWB options available and to ensuring that all members and their managers are aware of the LWB policy. It is hoped to raise awareness on this important issue with a view to achieving a better work life balance for ESPA members. 

Remember no one goes to their grave wishing they had spent more time in the office!
